Mary is a Registered Psychotherapist (qualifying) at YourTherapist Psychotherapy and Counselling. She incorporates strengths-based, cognitive-behavioural, and narrative methods to facilitate client-centred and positive counselling experiences. Her focus is helping clients integrate healthier coping strategies, mental health practices, and self-care plans into daily routines. She works collaboratively to address the things that cause stress, including individual symptoms, and help clients recognize where action is needed. By creating a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship, Mary also supports clients to realize that with time, work, and patience, difficulties can be viewed as gifts and opportunities to develop self-awareness, self-compassion, and self-forgiveness.
Mary received a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Environmental Studies and Geography at Trent University and a Diploma in Primary Education from Monash University. With over 18 years of experience teaching students with special needs, she completed additional qualifications through York University and Nippissing University and has led professional development opportunities for the Ministry of Education, and the Council for Exceptional Children. In her free time, Mary taught English in Japan and volunteered for Habitat for Humanity in Africa. She currently lives in the Peterborough Area countryside with her husband and 3 Clydesdale horses.
